Blue Ribbon Day

What a great day it's been.  I have finally got some of my new products uploaded to the Etsy shop; lots still to include; pendants, paintings, collages and trinket boxes.  In addition to that I am delighted to have been honoured with a invitation to join the Royal Society of the Arts as a Fellow.  The organisation aspires to encouraging the Arts around the world and I am delighted to accept the invitation, and will endeavour to play a part in the Society's great work.  Happy days.

ready, steady, go.

Being involved in the arts for so many years I've seen lots of new advances, products and techniques come and go.  One thing that has always created a challenge and probably always will is problems with glues and sealants...Not much has changed there.  Yes, there are far more available, but each has its limitations.
This past month has had me nearly tearing my hair out in that department, but, at last I have managed to concoct a glaze for my painted, porcelain trinket boxes that I'm satisfied with.
The boxes themselves are imported, white porcelain.  I then paint each one, sign and glaze it.  And there you have it, a unique handcrafted gift for you to give or keep. Photos to follow.

READY TO SELL NEW PRODUCTS

I've had a week or so of exploring and testing new products.  I love coming up with new stuff, what I don't like so much is the period after that when I have to test the durability and feasibility of new products...it seems so clinical and at odds with the whole artistic process, but it's so important.  I never release a new product without going through the process, so I can have confidence that there will be no unexpected effects or damage issues in new materials and processes.  It's the most boring part of the work I do, but it might also be the most important part.
So I am now able to put my new trinket boxes up for sale.  I plan to make an introductory offer of £7.50 per box, as I like to give followers a chance to buy new products at a reduced price.  Because each box is different and I hope to make a good number of them.  Choice will be limited to a general colour palette rather than an individual choice of box. ie. blues, greens, reds, browns.  I will honour the followers price up to the end of March, after which the price will be re-accessed and may rise.  If you are interest in buying, please let me know, otherwise, the details will be posted over the next few days.

trinket boxes...new

Another fun filled week experimenting with new inks and exploring how I can use them.  Here are a few trinket boxes I've just completed.  I love the way the colours react with one another and how bright and crisp they are.  The trinket boxes are glazed porcelain.  I have to wait a further three days before I'm certain that the inks are permanent under the sealant, and won't scratch off...it's an anxious time, so I will get on with more collage work to help keep my mind off it.  All being well, I will post them in the Etsy shop next week and see how they go.

I have had the most amazing week...working with my new inks.  I am learning more about them by the minute and have already ordered more.  I'm thrilled with them.
Here are the first few landscapes I've completed....more to follow.

Birthday wishes and plans

Can't believe another year has gone by...though, I do try to ignore the age number it brings!
I sometimes feel as if I am still searching for a favourite medium.  I love all the art projects I am involved in and experimenting with, but, as soon as I get to  enjoy what I'm doing, I find some other product or technique.  I am loving my collage work, and am spending more time dying silks to include in these works and looking towards other media to use.  I am looking forward to receiving some alcohol inks to experiment with...the intensity of colours are supposed to be amazing and I can't wait to get on with exploring the possibilities.
I realise I do need to concentrate on promoting and selling my existing work...if I want to get on and produce more.. Plan to spend the next week or so, photographing and posting work for sale.  As always, exciting times...........
